Reduced climate impact, Switzerland and 21 million euros
Last year was a good year for Paf, our overall sales increased and our results improved. We also managed to reduce our climate impact, we joined the Swiss gaming market and a total of 21 million euros was distributed for the benefit of society. These are some of the main achievements that headline the 2019 annual report that we publish online today.
The Red Cross and Save the Children
Paf was founded by the Red Cross, Save the Children, Public Health on Åland and a children’s foundation (then called Stiftelsen Dagens Barn) in 1966. Paf’s profits have been distributed to the benefit of society for all of our long history. Last year, 21 million euros was distributed in the form of Paf funds to a variety of recipients.
“Without these Paf funds, we would not be able to run our important work as we do today,” says Dag Lindholm, operations manager at the Åland Sea Rescue Society.
Paf in Switzerland
Paf was chosen as Swiss Grand Casino Luzern’s online partner in June 2019. The Swiss casino’s goal was to find a stable partner with the right knowledge and a good reputation in the industry.
“Paf has become our strategic ‘know-how’ partner with the right technology. They have been pioneers in online gaming and we believe that Paf can provide us with the experience and innovation needed to quickly establish a successful online casino in the Swiss market,” says Grand Casino Lucerne’s CEO Wolfgang Bliem.
Reduced climate impact
Paf’s operations in 2019 resulted in a total of 1,455 tonnes of CO2e, which is a decrease of 23.3% from 2018. The main reason for the reduction is a decrease in the number of air journeys, from 3807 in 2018 to 3119 in 2019.
“For some years now we have chosen to compensate for our climate impact in its entirety. This year, we are doing this by supporting the Bhilwara solar energy project in India. This project is run by the Finnish energy company Fortum,” says Paf’s Chief Sustainability Officer and Deputy CEO Daniela Johansson.
